Club Spraoi Child Care Policies and Best Practice Guidelines

Policies

In the absence of statutory regulations in the School Age Childcare sector in Ireland, the sector remains self-regulated, resulting in variable standards of care. Club Spraoi aims to provide the highest quality of care, by implementing the best practice guidelines set out in the 2005 report ‘Developing School-Age Childcare’ from the Childcare Directorate in the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform (DJELR).

Furthermore, the development of our policies and practices has been informed by Siolta: The National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education (2006) and Aistear: The Early Childhood Curriculum Framework (2009), and the principles of these Frameworks guide all of our interactions with the children and their families.

As with all childcare services, the health, safety and well-being of the child is of paramount importance, therefore our policies encompass the following areas:

  • Anti-bullying
  • Collection of children
  • Child protection
  • Children’s rights
  • Data protection
  • Discipline and behaviour management
  • Enrolment and admissions
  • Cancellation policy
  • Fire safety
  • Health and safety issues
  • Healthy-eating and healthy-lifestyle
  • Homework
  • Hours of operation
  • Indoor and outdoor programme of activities/curriculum
  • Technology usage (mobile phones, computer usage policy, etc.)
  • Outings
  • Parental involvement
  • Physical environment
  • Play policy
  • Programme planning
  • Staff and child ratios (in the absence of specific afterschool guidelines, these are based on international best practice models)
  • Trips and outings
  • Uses of internet
  • Permission for photographs

All staff are Garda vetted and First Aid trained.
